Let's Go Camping!

I'm ready for it- I want to get out and go camping, hiking, kayaking, to the beach, etc. You know, the things people down south can do all year long without freezing. Although it isn't even May yet, I don't think it is too early to get out there (just bring some extra layers). If you are anything like me, though, you may romanticize what real camping looks like- you know, where everybody and everything looks like it is out of a magazine (adorable dog in toe, perfectly prepared meal, beautiful hair, lovely company). But in reality there are bugs, your hair is a mess, you are tired from setting up camp all day, etc. Although FOUND cannot guarantee you a picture-perfect camping trip, we can definitely make sure what you bring is fun/cute/vintage- at least your pictures/Instragram will make it look like you are in a catalog. Let us help you get ready for your first camping trip- we have coolers, thermoses, jugs, blankets, and more! Check out the pictures below and start planning your trip!

Eight Oaks Terrariums

yea! Terrariums by eight oaks terrariums are here!

locally made and grown - sold at FOUND!

visit more about eight oaks terrariums at their facebook and blog.

here are a few simple FAQ

ok so here is a little info to help you answer people's questions about the terrariums:

Q: Are they hard to care for?
A: NO! Easier than a normal houseplant

Q: Do they need water?
A: A little spritz of water about once a week or so, sometimes even less than that! (I have one on my desk at work that I haven't watered in 2 months)

Q: What kind of light do they need?
A: A North facing window is ideal, but indirect sun is what it needs. So a coffee table in a bright room out of the direct rays of the sun is great, next to a window out of the sun is great too!

Q: Do I need to do anything to the plants?
A: if it is just moss - nope, if there are other plants, remove dead leaves and trim it with a scissors if you think they are getting too unruly in there.

Q: how long to they last?
A: they should last as long as any other houseplant.

Q: This open succulent one, what do I need to do to care for it?
A: It needs a little more water about once every 10 days, and full/direct sun.

Q: Will buying a terrarium make me cooler?
A: Totally!

baby mama drama

i'm 25. and my first close friend is having a baby.

naturally i called throwing the friend shower.

last night we found out it was going to be a girl. which is strange because for some reason i had a gut feeling that it was a boy (note to self: don't always go with gut instinct) lol.

now that i know it's going to be pink not blue (and probably sometime around july) i started looking for inspiration.

let me know your thoughts (and if you have any other great ideas!)

Industrial Bathroom Inspiration

As many of you know, my husband Troy and I have been working on renovating a historic home in Heritage Hill (Grand Rapids). It has been a year, and we have completed many projects... NONE of which have been bathroom renovations. I am not sure why I have left this for last- maybe because it didn't seem as much fun? Why would I think that? Who knows... although no project has been finished in the bathroom, that doesn't mean I haven't been inspired, bought items, or come up with a plan. Last summer, we bought two tall lockers (the mesh/see-through gym-locker type) with two doors each. My plan is to install 4 chalkboards on each and put these in the guest bathroom for storage (toiletries, towels, etc.). On the chalkboards, I would write the name of the guest to personalize the space as "theirs" for the length of their stay. I would also like to use a wooden, industrial workbench as the vanity/counter top. I will use vintage test-tube holders for toothbrush storage & locker baskets as additional storage. What do you think? I guess reading about ideas on how to utilize industrial elements in your bathroom is not as fun as seeing them in person... so, instead, I will provide you with some inspiration below. Many of these industrial items (or similar ones) can be purchased at FOUND. If you need a solution, but can't think of any ideas, stop in and see us- we are full of them!

I am loving the industrial cabinet and the dresser used in this bathroom for storage. The owner opted out of using traditional cabinets, and I LOVE it! SOURCE

Maybe you are blessed with an industrial space to begin with! If so, it won't take much to spruce it up. I am obsessing over those huge antlers as storage, aren't you? SOURCE

Be creative with your storage options. SOURCE

Metal office/medical cabinets can be repurposed to meet your storage needs. SOURCE

Metal locker baskets/mesh baskets are my FAVORITE storage accessory. SOURCE
I just realized I used the word "storage" a million times in these captions... I should have called this post "Bathroom Storage, Storage, and more Storage". I could go back and change some of them to "organization" or "clutter free", but I think "storage" makes the most sense- why ruin a good thing, right??

Cool Collages

Wall collages are a big trend in the design world right now. The thing that I like the best about them is that they are such a personal statement of individual style. Collages can include favorite artwork, friend and family photos in black and white or color, kids art, framed vintage fabrics, antlers, silhouettes, basically anything that inspires you. And that is what makes them so personal - no two are ever the same. And parts and pieces can be switched out and changed as new favorite artwork is found.
Facing a blank wall can be a little intimidating though, especially trying to decide where to start. Whenever I start working on a collage I begin with an anchor piece - usuallly the largest item I plan to hang, and just begin building out from there. You can always lay out your plan on a flat surface and sketch out a blueprint to start as well.
Do you have a pile of pictures but dont know where to start? Contact FOUND and schedule an appointment to have a custom collage installed for you! Call for pricing 616 -393-6863

Inspired by Succulents

Some people are born with a green thumb... others are not. I am the latter. I absolutely love how gardens/plants look in the home, and I am really inspired by them... but sometimes I accidentally let my plants die (don't tell Mari @ Ginko Studios). I have found, however, that succulents are the way to go for me. They are hearty, don't need too much maintenance, and add just the right amount of "green" to my home.

I think we were all spoiled with the 80-degree weather we had in Michigan during the month of May. I was excited to start putting spring flowers around the house and in my yard- but, alas, its cold again. I can't shake the desire for needing to enjoy a little piece of the outdoors, so I have turned to my old standby- the succulent. This week, I planted my succulents in vintage milk glass & tin boxes.

This got me thinking- I wonder what else people are doing with succulents? I always see a ton of inspiration on pinterest, google, etc, but I have never been super intentional about it. While searching, I found a lot of creative ideas on how to mix succulents with vintage smalls- tins, corks, cups, etc. I hope you are inspired, too!
