it's the little things that mean the most

i've never prided myself on a person who pays attention to details when it comes to things like spelling, knitting or engine lights. (maybe that is why i've always run into trouble with those things). but there are times when i do pay attention to detail and that is when i am buying something.

when i am out shopping i am looking for something special. it has to be eye catching and then it has to have some sort of interesting detail. i have to find something that makes me feel like i have a connection to it.

one of my favorite shirts is by a brand called Odd Molly. my shirt is a gray boho top with pink rosettes. cute...but what made me fall in love with it was the little details that you have to study the shirt to see. the first one is a hand embroidered butterfly near the seam on the right side of the shirt. the second detail is an embroidered phrase in the back neck part of the top saying "come mess up my hair". and anyone who has seen my hair knows that makes a lot of sense.

drawing inspiration from my top today i found a few pieces in the shop that have wonderful little details that make them special. what little details do you look for?

i encourage you while out shopping this week (and beautiful Saturday) look for those little details in each object.

dress for success

ok so we have warm weather but now it's raining. i think i'll savor the warmth.

about a year ago i stumbled across a blog/newsletter called The Daily Candy which highlights the latest and greatest fashion, food and fun of the big cities. i was very inspired by their post on Coachella and the modern day woodstock fashion surrounding it. here are some of my fav's.

i'm loving the polka dot dress and wide straw hat on ms. osbourne, i had to get one too.

i am smitten with the vintage dresses, the maxis, the lace, fun fun fun.

Beautiful, wacky. kitschy....

Beautiful, wacky. kitschy....

i opened the shop yesterday, grabbed my coffee, turned on the lights, turned up the heat (ughh) and listened to my messages from the weekend....and that is when i heard the words 'beautiful, wacky, kitsch.
a couple of ladies had wandered in on saturday and it turned out one of them i knew quite well. we had lost track of each other over the last few years and it was great to reconnect.
like so many of our customers it takes a visit to the store to really know all we do. my friend had been looking for some custom work and that prompted her call to the shop to discuss some projects. which is when she left this great message describing how inspired she was by our beautiful, wacky, kitschy store!
so what would prompt her to use that description? i could try to explain but better yet come and see for yourself!

going up

what a lovely welcome to the new week. snow....really? oooh Michigan you never cease to amaze me.

on the bright side today is the last day to file your tax return. this is good for two reasons. 1.) my husband is an accountant and i will now actually get to see him. 2.) tax returns!

as much as i would like to think i would save mine....yeah right.

this late season snow drives me crazy, but i won't let it get me down. this weekend my husband and i had a chance to escape for his birthday. we started out at Bar Divani and took advantage of their amazing happy hour deals then we ventured on for some delicious sushi from Mirados (spicy philadelphia and deep fried crazy boy roll....yummm). after that we figured why not keep going? we continued on to Bistro Bella Vita for some delicious desserts and finished the night at Cygnus located in the Amway Grand Plaza hotel.

we felt like we were on vacation so we decided to make it a vacation and snagged a room at the JW Marriot. it was so fun to feel like you were far away but only a short drive from home. it made me realize how diverse west Michigan is.

where is this all going? (i'm sure you're asking)

As i stepped out of the elevator yesterday morning the monotone robot voice belted out, "going up" which got me thinking about Saturday at the store.

so many of you came in and voiced your support for FOUND. we felt so grateful to hear you say that FOUND is one of your favorite spaces and that the pieces bring back warm and good memories for you.

it is people like you that keep us going and allow us to do what we love every day. it makes me feel like we have no place to go except for "going up"

happy monday friends we appreciate you!

prom!

i'm not going to lie when i saw the movie trailer for PROM i turned to my husband and made a sarcastic joke about really wanting to see that movie (when deep down i really did). come on that bad boy with the long hair is really good looking! that, and i'm a sucker for bad chick flicks full of teenage angst.

in case you don't know what i am talking about watch the trailer.

when i was in high school the biggest concern next to finding a date was finding a dress. it was so hard to find a dress locally that was unique and one of a kind. it usually happened that once you found the dress of your dreams you would arrive to prom and find at least two other girls that had the same dream as you! meaning the girl stole your look!

fear not! for FOUND and Cotton Dress Vintage have a lovely prom dress assortment along with a great selection of shoes, jewelry and other accessories. let us help you find that one of a kind dress that will make you feel special!

post pictures of yourself at prom we'd love to see it!

now for a little embarrassment here is me at my senior prom! please hold all applause until the end.

ok enough of that here is just a few of the dresses we have!

London Calling

i'm not sure what it is about the mod style that makes me think spring but i thought on a sunny day like this...it was time for a mod post. i think its the bright colors, sleek shapes and light fabrics that make me happy and geared up from warmer weather.

a little history:
mod was born in London, England in the late 1950's and peaked in the early-to-mid 1960's. the fashion was inspired by people breaking from oppression and restriction and resulted in short short short mini's, minimal makeup, platform heels and your boyfriends trouser pants. mod was sleek and sophisticated and produced fashion icons such as Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy.

yesterday as the sun was shining into our corner of 8th street i decided it was time to bust out the mod. the oranges, yellows, and greens and reds brightened my mood and i hope they do the same for you!
